maintain the speed limit just fine. If I were to really want to travel state-to-state I'd want a 750 or bigger. I'm a smaller guy so weight and seat height are important to me and the 600 suits me well in that respect. I've been looking at the Yamaha Bolt lately - it's a 950 and reviews on it are great
1. low center of gravity. 2. under 500 lbs. 3. NOT a superbike. I got a 750 virago for my first, and sometimes i think it wasnt the right move. It only weighs 487 lbs, and does have a low center of gravity, but it does have a respectable amount of power, and accelerates very fast.
