I think the "before" bit is significant. The wise and careful recommend tracking after replacing struts, let alone the subframe!
This sounds like a "earth" issue with your light cluster or possibly a faulty bulb,,,, first thing to do is to remove the rear lamp from the car you might need some release oil (wd-40 / plus gas/ duck oil / GT85) but not always to remove the 2 screws remove the plug and check all the contacts are clean if not use some of the above oil or
